Although the 1856 "Thomas" is credited with being the first puffer, the "Glasgow" has the distinction of being the first lighter built from scratch to be steam powered, rather than a conversion.

She was built for John Mather & John S. Campbell of Glasgow and sold a year later to.an A. A. Laird.  In 1881 she was bought by: J. & J. Hay. who renamed her "Zeta"

Clydebuilt records that she was lost on 3rd November 1881 but I cannot find any record of this in Scottish waters. However, as we know from the report on the sinking of the "Topaz", she did venture furth of the Firth.
