Built for Alexander McColl of Glasgow. Her 1880 MNL entry shows her registered from 1877 to a Hugh H Galloway of Glasgow although at the time of her loss she was owned by J Campbell of Greenock..
On February 11th, 1880, Marmion was in collision wih the wreck of the "Loch Etive" which had sunk in the Clyde near to its confluence with the Cart the previous day, The Loch Etive has itself been in collison with the steaner "Toward". Marmion was reported to have been "run ashore" at Dalmuir.
On 12th Ocober 1887.while on passage from Maryhill on the Forth and Clyde Canal to Mackairn Bay, Isle of Arran. with a cargo of gas lime she foundered off Kilmichael, Kyles of Bute.
