The 62nd and very last vessel built by the Hay yard.
Chindit was for their own fleet and was also the last
steam driven puffer built by any of the Clyde yards.
She grounded at Dunoon in 1960 after breaking her moorings
in a storm. The photograph below left shows her alongside
at Dunoon afterwards and some structural damage is
evident to her bulwarks and rail. She was towed to
Kirkintilloch for inspection with a view to being repaired but
the underwater damage was just too bad and so she
was towed back along the canal to Bowling to be scrapped.
